In response to the economic hardships caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic, Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). On July 9th, 2020, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved $10 million of CARES Act funds to develop a Residential Landlord and Tenant Assistance Program to support small landlords with 10 or fewer rental units by providing grants for rent forgiveness for tenants who are behind on rent due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. On July 16th, 2020, Commissioner Diaz and the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners approved an additional $15 million of CARES Act funds to provide Housing and Basic Needs assistance to veterans and active duty military members. This includes support for rent, mortgage and basic needs such as groceries. These programs can be accessed through the link below.
In November 2020, several municipalities within Miami-Dade County created the Municipality Housing Assistance Program (HAP) using CARES Act Funds. HAP can provide mortgage or rental assistance for residents of participating municipalities.
